Verry Terribles Charms Knickers Off FAI, journalists.

 

According to news and radio reports today, the FAI have appointed their squad of crack commandos to choose the right man to lead the shit Irish football team to the World Cup in 2010.

Following the unmitigated disaster of the last FAI appointment – a mildly retarded bicycle salesman from Drogheda called Steve – that saw them crash and burn embarassingly against teams like Cyprus, San Marino and the Botswana Defence Force XI, John Delaney (the most hated man in Ireland) has washed his hands of actually appointing a manager himself this time and handed responsibility over to a panel of “International experts”.

The three wise men are, apparently: Don Howe (former assistant manager to a man called Telly Vegetables while he was England supremo), Don Givens (truly awful U-21 manager and former drinking buddy and teammate of a man called El Tel  at QPR in the 1970’s, and ex Ireland captain Andy Taaaaahnsend, loveable Irish Cockney hybrid who has sat for years in his commentary box along with a man called Verry Terribles at ITV.

So I wonder who they’re going to choose?

Will it be Gerrard Houllier, the former UEFA cup winning Liverpool manager, who ran the French youth academy in the 1990’s leading to the development of players that would eventually win the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European championships?

Perhaps Roy Hodgson, the former Inter Milan and Switzerland manager who brought the unfancied Swiss to the QF of the World Cup in the US in 1994? A man who very nearly brought unfancied Finland to the 2008 Euros?

Any one of Graeme Souness? Phillippe Trousier? Arie Haan? All have expressed an interest and all have decent credentials (Haan may not have the managerial clout, but it’s Arie fucking Haan – he knows a thing or two about playing football). 

But alas, the FAI have fucked us over again and already seemingly plumped for El Tel, despite their shameless charade.

A man who, as assistant manager of England over the last 2 years failed to help them qualify from a piss poor group.

A man who has won two trophies in his 30 year managerial career – the Spanish league title in 1985 and the FA Cup with Spurs in 1991.

He managed England for 5 competitive matches in a tournament they didn’t have to qualify for in 1996, played all their games at home, won 2, drew 2 and lost one. Venables (who shares a name with one of the murderers of schoolboy Jamie Bolger) also failed to get Australia to the 2002 World Cup.

Sports ‘Journalists’ Paul Hyland and Dion Fanning, have been pushing the Venebles agenda in the Irish press in recent weeks for some reason, citing him as a new saviour for Irish football. The average football fan however, can see through their shite.  

Ask any Leeds Utd fan what they think about Verry Terribles after his disastrous spell in charge of the team. Or a Crystal Palace fan if you can find one. Or a Middlesborough fan after he walked out on them because Teeside was “too distant a location for his media and business interests” in 2001.  

If this happens, we’re fucked. 

We got rid of a trainee librarian and are about to bring in a used car salesman. Who is himself as bent as the FAI.

All we want is a football manager.
