I see one of those Polish lads that was attacked with a screwdriver in Drimnagh over the weekend has died. The other is still fighting for his life in some crumbling excuse for an Irish hospital as we speak.
Meanwhile, the little cunts that did it are probably texting the video around the rest of their scumbag mates and getting a pat on the back and a round of WKD off their da in what ever cesspit they all drink in of an evening.

I don’t think any news story has bothered me so much in quite a while. Although the other Polish guy who was set alight by another unrelated set of scumbags in Limerick pushed it fairly close.
Fucking Drimnagh. Fucking everywhere in Dublin for that matter. Clondalkin, Ballyfermot, Gallanstown, Inchicore, Ballymun, Jobstown, Darndale, Crumlin …. you name it, the area is overrun with vicious pond life. Most of these places always were, however, nowadays the pond life is younger, and armed to the teeth with stanley blades and screwdrivers, and are mostly ripped to the tits on €5 yokes and even cheaper flagins of cider. And there’s no use looking to the parents for a bit of control, because they’re the ones buying it for them.
The Polish lads crime? Not buying these little scumbags drink in an off licence. What a pair of bastards, eh? Two grown men actually showing a bit of decency and responsibility towards someone elses children.
I wonder what would have happened to me? I’m a bit too mch of a smartarse around scumbags for my own good. Only last week, some fat little troll faced geebag asked me to ‘gerrus smokes will yeh?’ on my way into Centra. I said to her ‘don’t be so lazy, you’re right outside the shop’. I could feel the eyes of her and her equally acne riddled scutrat 14 year old boyfriend drilling into the back of my head through the shop window all the time I was in there. Because I was a ‘Fuckinnn prrrrrrick’.
I realise now that I could have been tailed home by this teenage tart, and attacked with a hammer later on, left bludgeoned to death for simply saying no to these examples of sub-human filth.

Bollocks it’s the governments fault. 50 years is a long time to blame the government for a problem that is continuously evolving and constantly rearing it’s head. And bollocks it’s the Gardaí’s fault either. This happenned outside a chipper at 6pm. Not at 3 in the morning on the spur of the moment after a night of drinking and spilling out on the streets. How do you police against premeditated murder?
I know a load of brilliant people from Ballyfermot and Drimnagh. I’ve gone out drinking there, gone to parties, I’ve worked there. But at the same time, I know people who’ve been directly affected by fatal shootings, and have seen great nights out ruined by people who are, without a doubt, the scum of the earth.
It’s about time people started taking responsibility for the children that they have shat into existence in the suburbs of Dublin.
I love this country, and I fucking love this city, but I for one am sick of these horrible little bastards. Fuck this juvenile shite. Try the fuckers for murder as grown ups. They knew exactly what they were doing.
My vocabulary is better than this. These cunts just make me angry.

The one culture shock I got when I moved from Limerick to New Zealand was the lack of scumbags. Yes, there are a lot of fucked up people here too, there’s crime and murders and stuff, but a distinct lack of scumbags, skobes, skangers, chavs, whatever you want to call them hanging around. Being from Limerick you kind of get used to scumbags on the streets and they just kind of blend in to the surroundings, but it’s noticable when there are none. I don’t know why this is. One thing I’ve noticed is that council housing - ’state’ housing they call it here - isn’t all concentrated in big estates where anti social behaviour can fester. Instead you have less well off families put in private estates and maybe this helps the kids when they are growing up, mixing with normal decent families on the street. I’m not saying all less well off people in council estates are bad people, but anywhere there’s a few bad eggs that can mix together easily there will be trouble.
What’s my point? Buy the scumbags houses in Howth or fucking Killiney. That’ll sort it out!

Sometimes I get all homesick and think of Ireland in a rose-tinted lenses type way. Like you I love the country, i love the city but I do appreciate getting reminders like this from time to time that it is far from fucking perfect and that things are fucked up…it seems weird to be thanking you for the enlightenment. But I know you’re not a scandal-monger and that I can trust your judgement on a situation. Good luck
I’m from Drimnagh and live not two minutes from the place where this happened. I came across this blog via Twenty Major. The only real violence I’ve known of here has been between the rival drug gangs (although if I didn’t read the papers, I honestly wouldn’t know they existed). The most shocking thing about this to me is the randomness of the act and its relationship with the viciousness of the same.
Of COURSE I’m aware and always have been aware of “scumbags”, having spent 15 or so years in school with many of them and just living in proximity to them. But the line between skanger and murderer is rather a thick one, I should think.
Those who committed the act of savagery in question are utterly responsible and deserve the maximum sentence the law can impose, but denying ANY sociological background is rather foolish. These pockets of “scumbags” don’t just appear at random like spores dropped blind from the air. Drimnagh is another area which is culturally and educationally ill served. It’s something of a wasteland to me. I don’t know it well and I’ve lived here for 22 years.
Were it not for my parents and a couple of wonderful teachers, I could well be drinking from a brown plastic bottle and getting ready to dry-hump my sixteen year old girlfriend against a pebble-dashed wall, the feeling of our velour tracksuit bottoms turning me on more than anything else… instead of a college graduate collaborating in the curing of societies ills at 2am on a Friday morning.
I don’t think I’ve offered any answers or made a terrible amount of sense, but I hope I’ve offered some perspective from someone who is both from but not from Drimnagh.

I live in a different area of Dublin now, a stone’s throw from Fairview Park where the Italian lad was left paralysed by a scanger a few years ago. Said scanger lives two minutes from us and his brothers and little cronies stalk the streets at all hours, lamping anything in their path. An Indian man on a bike was accosted by about twenty of these little shites last year, right outside my front door. He wouldn’t leave, he thought he could reason with them, then he started calling his friends on his phone. I had to go out there and tell them all to fuck off and leave the man alone and I stayed there til they left. Long story short, I popped out for smokes aa while later to find the cunts wheeling his bike down the road. He was nowhere in sight. I dread to think what evolved.
I’m not a do-gooder but I DO have a sympathy of sorts; these kids are obviously deeply unhappy. I know that’s not what you want to hear but balanced, moderate people do not cause these type of problems and it’s well and good to suggest beating the shite out of them but that’s fighting fire with fire.
It’s the family. The parents. When you’re raised seeing/hearing/experiencing all manner of sordid and dysfunctional behaviour, you havent got a chance unless you’re above average intellect. Some kids just don’t know life without cheap booze and doxy mothers. Why is our government standing by allowing such blatant neglect? Why do development nurses and social workers only monitor infants’ progress? It’s like the childcare supplement pay which extends to six years of age: after that they wash their hands.
Extreme social awareness and parenting classes should be mandatory for all families with a history of abuse/addiction etc. Schools must work closely with social workers to highlight potential problems before they result in a screwdriver through the brain.
I agree with Twenty on the vigilante issue but in a different context: we need society, not the papers or the bloggers but the people who see this shite every day, to step up to the plate, speak out and shame these ignorant fuckers, hour after day after week. We need to draw a line of acceptable behaviour. Whether it’s scutty teens gobbing in your path, geebag mothers smoking when pregnant, fat taximen jeering racial abuse out their windows, litterers…make a stand.

I’m from a council housing estate, a working class family, both my parents split when I was 11 and I had pretty much fuck all as my ma struggled to make ends meet when I was growing up but I never let it be a fuckin millstone around my neck and I certainly would never have thought of killing someone or used it as an excuse to get out of any shit I got into.
The problem with these little cunts is that they are growing up in a society thats no longer poor and in effect they are spoiled little bastards who think society owes them something because ya know “DER BLEEDIN DEADLY”. I mean the cheek of the Polsih lads for not going the offy for them! Tthey are 14 years of age after all!

I’m a single mum, fuckin penniless, live in a shithole and have two kids with impeccable manners who put their rubbish in pockets and don’t fight with anyone but each other (still working on that one).
I believe that there are two cross-sections contributing to this problem, both pertaining to parents: the negligent and the scumbags.
Scumbag is a mindset, not a postal code.
You don’t have to be a chain-smoking bingo hag to be a crappy parent: shipping your kids in front of the telly or out to the shop with €5 for sweets just to keep them quiet is negligence, along with giving into a child’s every demand or not enforcing important rules. It makes them unstimulated, lazy, lacking in family values and respect.
If a child can walk all over their parents, what’s to respect? If a parent fobs off a kid, where’s the respect?
And I don’t think it’s so much about underprivilieged areas/families: horrible situations strike all walks of live and misery won’t ignore knocking on your door because there’s a Merc in the drive.
I’d say there’s only a few real yobs in every mob: the rest are just sheep lacking in imagination and a sense of purpose because now they’re too old to sit in front of tv and they spend their fivers on Dutchy.
They just want attention and respect. Too little, too late.

I know all about living among these scumbags, I live in Inchicore and have hated it since day one. The only time in the 18 years that I’ve been here that I have seen any effective control of these dirtbags is when there was an active vigilante presence in the estate.
Now, I know this was highly illegal, and it was being run by the local rah heads but it was the only time that these little scumbags didn’t feel like they could carry on their usual behaviour with impunity.
I would only consider this as a valid method of control with regard to scumbags and not for any other aspect of law enforcement. These dirtbags are not afraid of the Gardai… not a jot!
Everybody needs to remember that they are only strong in numbers. Get one on his own in the back of a van, surrounded by grown men in masks and they will cry like babies and probably piss their pants.
Several good beatings was all that was needed to completely change the atmosphere in my estate but sadly, for whatever reason, vigilant activities ended and it was not long before word got around that it was ok to emerge again. Sustained vigilante presence will work. Either that or a real toughening up of the Gardai.
It’s all well and good being a lefty when you live in Donnybrook but the reality is that these little scangers need to be chastised and given the slaps that their parents never bothered to dole out.
